Production of our natural soaps

Our natural soaps are made in Frutigen, in the Bernese Oberland. These beautiful soaps are created in collaboration with Heidi Ryter from Seifenstück. Gently crafted using the traditional cold process method, the soaps are nourishing and help replenish the skin’s natural oils. They are completely free from preservatives, palm oil, and plastic, and are fully biodegradable. Our natural soaps are packaged in boxes made from recycled paper.

Cold process?

Our natural soaps are made using the traditional cold process method. In this process, fats and oils are saponified with the help of lye (sodium hydroxide) to create soap and glycerin. The saponification takes place at a low temperature, typically between 40 and 70°C. The still-warm soap mixture is then poured into molds, where it matures for 4 to 6 weeks until it becomes ready-to-use soap. The great advantage of this method is that nourishing components like glycerin are retained, resulting in a high-quality natural soap.

Benefits of natural soaps

Soap-making is an ancient craft that has been practiced for thousands of years. In the past, all soap was considered “healthy,” as there were no chemical additives. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case today. Industrially produced soaps often contain chemicals and synthetic ingredients—parabens as preservatives, surfactants as emulsifiers, and microplastics for exfoliation.

Natural soaps, on the other hand, are made from natural raw materials—such as plant-based oils, animal ingredients, and essential oils. They are biodegradable and very economical in use. Packaging is also kept to a minimum: since our natural soaps are solid, they can be easily wrapped in recycled paper cartons without the need for plastic bags or bottles.

That’s why natural soaps are the better choice—for both your health and the environment. Cold-processed natural soaps are significantly gentler and more nourishing than mass-produced industrial soaps. Because the cold process retains the beneficial ingredients like glycerin, these soaps help replenish the skin’s natural oils. The unsaponified fats in natural soaps replace part of the skin's washed-away oils, making the soap both replenishing and deeply moisturizing.

Ask a Question

I bought another soap and it looks a little different than the last time. Why?
The soaps are natural products and only contain natural raw materials. Therefore, it can happen that the color in one batch is a little more intense, or that the leaves and flowers are different sizes. In addition, the soaps are only produced in small batches.
Why is my soap greasy?
The natural olive oil in your soap is responsible for this. Natural soaps should always be able to dry well after use. It’s best to keep the contact surface between the soap and the soap dish as small as possible.
Can I use my natural soap to cleanse my face?

Our hand and shower soaps are mild and you can also use them on your face. The rich ingredients cleanse your face and counteract the loss of oil from your skin. The shower and peeling soaps, on the other hand, are not recommended for facial cleansing.

Do these natural soaps provide better care?

In our opinion: YES. Soaps made using the cold process are much gentler and more nourishing than industrially manufactured soaps. This is because the cold process preserves the nourishing substances such as glycerin. The proportion of unsaponified fat in natural soaps replaces some of the skin fat that is washed off. This means they are moisturizing and care for your skin better.

Bar soap? Why not liquid soap?

For ecological reasons. Bars of soap are very economical to use and therefore much more efficient than the same amount of liquid soap. We can also save a lot on packaging. We can easily put our bars of soap in a box made of recycled paper and don't need any plastic bags or bottles.

Natural soaps? What is the advantage?

Natural soaps are made from natural raw materials. For example, from vegetable oils, animal ingredients and also essential oils. They do not contain any questionable raw materials and are biodegradable. Therefore, natural soaps are preferable for health and ecological reasons.

In the past, of course, all soap was harmless because there were no chemicals. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case today. Chemicals or synthetic substances are used in industrially manufactured products. Parabens as preservatives, surfactants as emulsifiers, microplastics as peelings. Of course, you won't find any of that in our natural soaps.

How are the natural soaps made?

Our natural soaps are made using the traditional cold process. The saponification process takes place at relatively low temperatures of 40 to 70°. The natural soaps then need 4 to 6 weeks to mature.

The big advantage of the cold process is that the nourishing substances such as glycerin remain intact, thus creating a very high-quality natural soap.

Where are the natural soaps made?
Our natural soaps are handmade in our hometown of Frutigen. It is located in the middle of the mountains in the beautiful Bernese Oberland. These works of art are created in collaboration with Heidi Ryter from Seifenstück.ch.
