How are essential oils extracted?
There are various ways to extract essential oils. The most common are steam distillation, cold pressing or extraction.
Are your essential oils natural?
Our essential oils are pure natural products. We only consider 100% natural essential oils.
How many drops of essential oil are in 5ml?
We assume that there are about 20 drops in 1ml of essential oil. This means that there are about 100 drops in 5ml.
So if you use 5 drops for your fragrance stone, aroma lamp or aroma diffuser, our bottle will be enough for 20 applications.
What is the best way to store my essential oil?
The ideal storage temperature is between 18 and 22 °C without major temperature fluctuations.
Why are there hazard symbols on the label?
Our scented candle contains 100% natural essential oils. Essential oils are a chemical mixture of many substances, which is why they are classified as chemicals in Switzerland and marked with a corresponding hazard symbol.
If our scented candle didn't contain 100% pure essential oils, there wouldn't be a hazard symbol on the outer box. You could therefore say that the hazard symbol is a sign of quality.
How do I use the essential oils?
Add 5 to 10 drops to your fragrance stone, aroma lamp or aroma diffuser. For use in aromatherapy, it is best to look in specialist literature or ask your aromatherapist.
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are highly volatile, fat-soluble, chemical mixtures that contain a huge number of chemical compounds. Each essential oil has its own character and therefore its own area of application. Essential oils are produced by the plant in oil glands. Depending on the type of plant, these are found in the leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit peels, roots, but also in resins, bark or wood. Essential oils are the scents and communication substances of a plant.
Do you make the essential oils yourself?
We are not equipped to produce essential oils ourselves. Our fragrance blends are created in collaboration with Aromalife - a veteran and true professional in the field of fragrances. Our essential oils are bottled and labeled at the TRANSfair Foundation in Thun. The foundation offers mentally impaired people a meaningful and protected workplace.

I have sensitive skin. Which deodorant is suitable for me?
If you have very sensitive skin, we recommend our perfume-free version "Nature". For this reason, we do not use the natural scent of essential oils. You can get the Deo Nature as a stick or in two sizes as a cream.
Are the deodorants also suitable for teenagers?
I sweat a lot, is your deodorant good for me?
We deliberately avoid aluminum because we don't want to prevent your body from sweating - an important function for regulating body temperature. Instead, we use natural ingredients such as baking soda, zinc oxide and healing clay, which neutralize acids and fight bacteria that are responsible for the unpleasant smell.
So you will continue to sweat, but the deodorant will ensure that it doesn't smell unpleasant. For optimal protection, it's best to apply the deodorant to dry skin immediately after showering or bathing.
Are your deodorants vegan?
Do I have to store the deodorant in the refrigerator?
I shower every day, why should I still use deodorant?
Does the deodorant leave stains?
Deodorant cream or deodorant stick, which product is better?
Both work on the same principle: they inhibit bacterial growth and reliably protect against unpleasant body odor. Whether you choose the stick or the cream depends entirely on your preferences. While you apply the deodorant cream with your fingers like an ointment, you simply glide the stick over your skin.
What is in the deodorant creams and deodorant sticks?
What's inside
We make our deodorants from natural, sustainable and, whenever possible, local raw materials. Swiss organic sunflower oil, Bernese Oberland beeswax, baking soda, wool fat (also called lanolin), organic corn starch, zinc oxide, healing clay, home-grown marigolds, organic essential oils for the subtle scent: bergamot, lavender, mint.
What is not included
Aluminum salts, alcohol, paraffins, parabens, dyes, synthetic preservatives or fragrances, nanoparticles, palm oil, plastic.
Local raw materials
We prefer local raw materials whenever possible. Instead of coconut oil/fat, shea butter and cocoa butter, we use sunflower oil and beeswax.

Deodorant or antiperspirant?
In our everyday language, there is no distinction between them. But there is a significant difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant.
An antiperspirant is intended to inhibit local sweat formation. By clogging the pores with aluminum salts, the sweat is prevented from emerging on the surface of the skin.
The deodorant, on the other hand, combats the bad smell of sweat as soon as it occurs. Deodorants often do not contain aluminum salts, but rather antibacterial substances and fragrances that inhibit the formation of sweat odor. Unpleasant smells only arise when bacteria break down the sweat on our skin. This is exactly where our deodorants come in. They contain zinc oxide, baking soda, healing clay and corn starch. These active ingredients make life difficult for the bacteria.

How does the deodorant cream work?
Zinc oxide has an antibacterial effect and inhibits bacterial growth. It neutralizes unpleasant odors and relieves razor burn. Zinc oxide is a natural compound of zinc and oxygen.
The alkaline sodium bicarbonate also neutralizes odors. By changing the pH value on the skin, it inhibits the activity of odor-producing bacteria. It absorbs moisture and binds sweat. These properties are supported by healing clay and corn starch.
Your natural sweating is not suppressed, which means that the skin's regulating function is maintained.

What does the Alpine Meadow scented candle smell like?
Our fragrance composition consists of various green notes that are reminiscent of fresh grass and hay. Our scented candle contains the following main components:
• Top notes: anise, mint
• Heart notes: Iris, Ylang-Ylang
• Base notes: cedarwood, patchouli, vetiver
What do I need to consider when using my scented candle?
Place your scented candle on a heat-resistant surface and let it burn for at least 2 hours the first time. To ensure that your candle burns evenly, it is important to let it burn for a longer period of time. When the candle is almost empty (less than 2mm of wax), extinguish it immediately to avoid overheating the glass.
How long does the scented candle burn?
If you take care of your candle properly, you can enjoy it for up to 40 hours. It is made of eco-rapeseed wax, a vegetable wax with a low melting point. This means that it produces less heat when burning than conventional paraffin candles. Therefore, it burns more slowly and evenly.
Do you make the scented candle yourself?
Our Alpine Meadow scented candle was developed and produced in collaboration with the candle professional Girl from the Mountain. Girl from the Mountain is a small company based in the Bernese Oberland. Our scented candles are made in the correctional facility in Hindelbank.
Is the Alpine Meadow scented candle synthetic?
No, our scented candle is 100% natural. Perfume oils and paraffins are out of the question for us. We only use 100% natural essential oils and natural isolates for the fragrance mixture. Isolates are pure fragrances that are obtained from plant extracts. The candle is made of eco-rapeseed wax.
Why is there a hazard symbol on the packaging?
Our scented candle contains 100% natural essential oils. Essential oils are a chemical mixture of many substances, which is why they are classified as chemicals in Switzerland and marked with a corresponding hazard symbol.
If our scented candle didn't contain 100% pure essential oils, there wouldn't be a hazard symbol on the outer box. You could therefore say that the hazard symbol is a sign of quality.

Where does marmot oil come from?
The marmot fat, the chamois fat and the badger fat all come from Swiss hunters. We buy these high-quality raw materials directly and exclusively from responsible Swiss hunters. This means we know exactly where our animal fats come from.
In order to prevent overpopulation and diseases, the population of these wild animals is controlled through hunting. The federal government and the respective cantons monitor the hunting.
Do you all hunt marmots yourself?
This is neither necessary nor possible. Swiss hunting is regulated and monitored by the federal government and the respective cantons. There are quotas that are adjusted depending on the animal population in the respective cantons and distributed among the hunters. So the number of marmots that can be hunted each year is fixed and adjusted to the population. The population of these wild animals is controlled by hunting in order to prevent and contain overpopulation and thus diseases.
We have a large network of Swiss hunters and buy the valuable marmot fat, chamois fat and badger fat directly and exclusively from them. This is a lot of work, as each individual hunter is only buying small amounts of marmot oil, chamois fat or badger fat.
Hunting & Ethics, the Moral Question
For us, there is no more species-appropriate animal husbandry than the wild. The wonderful raw materials within the strictly regulated and responsible Swiss hunting system should be used sensibly and provide enjoyment for many years. It is important to us that the valuable fats, hides and antlers are also used in addition to the game meat.
Treating nature and wild animals with respect is very important to us. Our furs, animal specimens and antlers therefore come exclusively from hunting or fallen game. We obtain most of these products from Swiss hunters and only in exceptional cases from foreign hunters. We declare the origin on the label. For our ointments and oils we only use fats that come from Swiss hunters, without exception.

Where do the blades come from?
The blades for our sausage slicers, salami slicers and cheese slicers come from the Swiss knife forge of Victorinox.
Over 130 years of tradition and experience guarantee us knives that exactly meet our requirements in terms of sharpness, quality and durability.
Marmot herbal ointments and sausage slicers, how do they go together?
Actually, not at all! But only at first glance. If you know the story behind it, it fits quite well.
Andreas Schmid is a passionate hunter and has been going to markets as a hobby since 1981 to trade in furs, marmot oil and later also game meat. In 1992, a chance meeting with a herbalist led to the creation of the warming marmot herbal ointment. Due to the great success of the marmot herbal ointment, Andreas Schmid is going to more and more markets.
The game sausage is always included as an additional product. Of course, this sausage is always cut and tasted with customers. In 2007, a sausage slicer was given as a gift to help cut the game sausage. Just because it is quicker and without any intention of selling. The reaction from customers was so good, however, that the sausage slicer was added to the range in 2008.
Everything comes from hunting and hunting products. So the marmot herbal ointment and the sausage slicer somehow go together.
How do I care for and store the wooden products?
Store the wooden products at as constant a room temperature as possible. After use, wipe everything with a damp cloth and dry. Do not clean under running water, with a hard brush or strong cleaning agent.
The wooden products are not dishwasher safe. If necessary, you can care for the wood with our 100% natural Swiss wood butter.
The blades are all replaceable or can be sharpened.
Where are the planes and cutting boards made?
The development and production of our sausage slicers, salami slicers, cheese slicers and cutting boards takes place exclusively in Swiss workshops for people with disabilities. These workshops are located in Bern, Thun and Interlaken. Not far from us in Frutigen.
In the workshops, the wooden products are made with patience, dedication, careful craftsmanship and great pride. Each plane and board is unique with its own wood pattern.
Which plane is right for me?
There is no such thing as THE right planer. It all depends on your requirements. We will try to give you a brief explanation here.
SAUSAGE SLICER For smaller pieces of meat, cheese and more. You can cut sausages up to 4.5cm in diameter.
SALAMI SLICER For larger pieces of meat, cheese and anything that can be cut up to 9cm in diameter. If in doubt, use the salami slicer. You can also use it to cut smaller sausages without any problem.
SAUSAGE HARVESTER Gastro At 4.5cm, it has exactly the same cutting surface as the sausage slicer. The only difference is that the sausage slicer is attached to the serving plate.
SALAMI HOBEL Gastro At 9cm, it has exactly the same cutting surface as the salami slicer. The only difference is that the salami slicer is attached to the serving plate.
CHEESE SLICER small Sliced cheese and hard cheese up to 10cm wide.
CHEESE SLICER large Sliced cheese and hard cheese up to 12cm wide. Only with the large cheese slicer can you create the sausage and cheese slicer COMBI together with the sausage slicer.
Where does the wood come from?
Whenever possible and sensible, we use wood from Switzerland. We attach great importance to contemporary design and a stylish selection of wood types. That's why we are not afraid to source wood from abroad.
This is where our wood comes from:
Ash tree Switzerland
Walnut mainly from the EU, mostly Hungary. The reason: darker black walnut tree. Swiss walnut is very rare and less suitable for processing.
Cherry tree Switzerland
Plum tree Switzerland
Olive tree mainly from Italy and the EU
Who invented it?
How we would have loved to have invented the sausage slicer. But we weren't! We never found the origin. Sausage slicers are said to have existed over 30 years ago. Well, many say they invented them. We had the slicer in our range for some of them before they invented it... 😊
This is our truth:
Our first contact with a sausage slicer came about by chance. A gift from his son Sandro, the slicer is used by founder Andreas Schmid at markets to taste the famous wild sausage, without any intention of selling it. It makes cutting quicker and easier. The reaction from customers was great. Many were enthusiastic and wanted to buy the slicer. So the manufacturer of the gifted slicer was sought out and the slicers were eventually added to the range. More slicers were quickly needed. This is how the various workshops for people with disabilities came into play. Some of them had already produced the slicers before. Others were newly discovered.
We have further invented:
But we didn't stop at the sausage slicer, we continued to develop it. The quality of the sausage slicer was continually improved and the salami slicer was created. This is the big brother of the sausage slicer for cutting larger pieces of meat. The patented, and thus protected, sausage and cheese slicer KOMBI was also developed. This combines the sausage slicer and the cheese slicer in a simple, safe and space-saving way.
Can I have an engraving done?
How do I clean the planes?
You can wipe the plane with a damp cloth. This is enough for cleaning. From time to time, a more thorough cleaning is recommended. To do this, you can unscrew the blade and clean everything thoroughly with a damp cloth.
For meat slicers, we recommend that you remove the knife carriage before cleaning. This is for your safety so that you don't cut yourself.
Please do not clean in the dishwasher, under running water or with strong detergent.
Is the planer SUVA compliant?
No, and your meat knife? 😊
Seriously, we hear that from time to time and are always amazed by this question. Yes, it's a knife. Yes, it's sharp. It has to be so that you can cut the meat. It would be difficult with a spoon. And no, it's not more dangerous than other knives. The blade always cuts through in the same place and you can't slip with it. You just can't put your fingers in the same space as the sausage. Then nothing will happen to you. 😊
And by the way: When someone cuts themselves, it's usually when cleaning the plane. Probably because people are less careful there.
How do I adjust the thickness?
You can do this easily by hand and with a little feeling. There is no stop and your pieces will not always be exactly the same thickness, down to a tenth of a millimeter. Unless you are very experienced... 😊 But who needs that for an aperitif with friends?
And anyway, one likes it thicker, the other thinner. So you can just start cutting without having to spend a long time screwing or fixing anything. Each one does it the way she wants.
Believe us, it's really easy and with a little practice you'll quickly get the hang of it. So far, everyone has managed it!
How big pieces can I cut?
Sausage slicer:
Sausages, dried meat, etc. up to 4.5 cm in diameter.
Salami slicer:
Sausages, salami, dried meat, etc. up to 9 cm in diameter.
What can I cut with the planes?
Basically anything you can cut with a knife. Sausages, dried meat, salami, bacon, Mostbröckli, ham, cervelat, cheese, carrots and so on. The blade is made for cutting meat. That works best.
What we do not recommend:
Things that contain water or acid. Such as apples, oranges, lemons. These are not good for the wood and can roughen it.

How do I adjust the thickness of the cheese slicer?
You only need to adjust the blade once. There are two screws on the underside of the slicer that you can loosen by hand. Push the blade forward until the slices are exactly as thick as you want. Then straighten the blade and tighten the screws. This will lock the blade and your slices will always be the same thickness.
It's best to leave the blade adjusted like this afterwards. That way you don't have to do it again every time. Just be careful not to cut yourself when cleaning and putting it away.
Can I use the cheese slicer to slice vegetables?
Clearly: yes and no 😊
Basically, the cheese slicer is designed to cut hard cheese into wafer-thin slices. We don't recommend using the cheese slicer for cutting vegetables. This is mainly because vegetables are softer and can break or get stuck, for example . This means that you can cut yourself with an unexpected movement. And of course we don't want that. But it's by no means the case that the cheese slicer can't handle vegetables. The Victorinox blade is very sharp and slices vegetables without any problems. If you're brave, you can give it a try. Just be careful with your fingers.
Which cheese can I slice with the cheese slicer?
How do I clean the planes?
You can wipe the plane with a damp cloth. This is enough for cleaning. From time to time, a more thorough cleaning is recommended. To do this, you can unscrew the blade and clean everything thoroughly with a damp cloth.
For meat slicers, we recommend that you remove the knife carriage before cleaning. This is for your safety so that you don't cut yourself.
Please do not clean in the dishwasher, under running water or with strong detergent.

Which product do I need for my lips?
All of our lip care products are ideal for dry and chapped lips. It depends on what you prefer:

Vogellisi Balsam Do you like it creamy and moist? Then the Vogellisi Balsam is just right for you. The Vogellisi Balsam is also great for smaller wounds or cracks.
Bärgmüntschi Lipgloss Do you like shiny lips? Then the Bärgmüntschi is the perfect choice for you. Similar creamy and nourishing as the Vogellisi balm, but with more shine for your lips. Looks kissable! 😊

What active ingredients does marmot oil contain?
Marmot oil received scientific confirmation in a research report in 1988*. In this study, various corticosteroids (natural relatives of cortisone) were detected in small amounts in marmot fat. This natural cortisone substance is sufficient to give marmot fat its special power. This finding was new and unique in the animal world. This report points out that marmot oil and badger fat have been used to treat various ailments since at least the Middle Ages. The focus has always been on external use for the musculoskeletal system.

What is marmot oil?
Marmot oil is made from marmot fat, that is, from the fat of the marmot. This fat is processed using heat and remains in oil form (up to a certain temperature). That is why it is also called marmot oil.
Marmot fat contains small amounts of natural substances that are related to cortisone. This is where the well-known and powerful effect of marmot oil comes from. Alpine residents recognized this a long time ago. Marmot fat has been a tried and tested household remedy in Alpine folk medicine for over 500 years.

Marmot oil stinks! Right?
That was probably how it used to be! It depends a lot on the careful processing of the marmot fat. First-class marmot oil has little odor of its own and smells similar to vegetable oil. There are natural differences in the scent of our marmot oil. Because every animal is different. That is unavoidable. Otherwise we have to add fragrances to the marmot oil. And that is out of the question for us. Our marmot oil should remain 100% natural.
For our natural products we only use marmot oil of the highest quality. The addition of different herbal mixtures gives for example Our marmot herbal ointments not only have a powerful effect but also have a pleasant, refreshing scent. See for yourself.
Marmot oil softens bones. Is that true?
This is a widely held opinion among the people. We take this scientifically unproven theory seriously. Therefore, and also for our own safety, we limit the use of pure marmot oil to 2 to 4 times a week.
The amount of marmot oil in our marmot herbal ointments and massage oils is adjusted so that you can safely use them several times a day for an unlimited period of time.
Our opinion:
We think that this information is based on early traditions. At that time, medicine was not as advanced as it is today. Osteoporosis (also called "bone loss"), for example, was unknown. The oil was used a lot in the past. Users probably blamed some bone fractures on the marmot oil.
We have been selling our marmot products since 1992 (marmot oil since 1981) and have not received a single response on this topic. Many therapists have also been working with our products on a daily basis for years. We have not received any negative feedback here either.

How do I care for and store the wooden products?

Where are the planes and cutting boards made?
The development and production of our sausage slicers, salami slicers, cheese slicers and cutting boards takes place exclusively in Swiss workshops for people with disabilities. These workshops are located in Bern, Thun and Interlaken. Not far from us in Frutigen.
In the workshops, the wooden products are made with patience, dedication, careful craftsmanship and great pride. Each plane and board is unique with its own wood pattern.
Where does the wood come from?
Whenever possible and sensible, we use wood from Switzerland. We attach great importance to contemporary design and a stylish selection of wood types. That's why we are not afraid to source wood from abroad.
This is where our wood comes from:

I bought another soap and it looks a little different than the last time. Why?
Why is my soap greasy?
Can I use my natural soap to cleanse my face?
Our hand and shower soaps are mild and you can also use them on your face. The rich ingredients cleanse your face and counteract the loss of oil from your skin. The shower and peeling soaps, on the other hand, are not recommended for facial cleansing.
Do these natural soaps provide better care?
In our opinion: YES. Soaps made using the cold process are much gentler and more nourishing than industrially manufactured soaps. This is because the cold process preserves the nourishing substances such as glycerin. The proportion of unsaponified fat in natural soaps replaces some of the skin fat that is washed off. This means they are moisturizing and care for your skin better.
Bar soap? Why not liquid soap?
For ecological reasons. Bars of soap are very economical to use and therefore much more efficient than the same amount of liquid soap. We can also save a lot on packaging. We can easily put our bars of soap in a box made of recycled paper and don't need any plastic bags or bottles.
Natural soaps? What is the advantage?
Natural soaps are made from natural raw materials. For example, from vegetable oils, animal ingredients and also essential oils. They do not contain any questionable raw materials and are biodegradable. Therefore, natural soaps are preferable for health and ecological reasons.
In the past, of course, all soap was harmless because there were no chemicals. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case today. Chemicals or synthetic substances are used in industrially manufactured products. Parabens as preservatives, surfactants as emulsifiers, microplastics as peelings. Of course, you won't find any of that in our natural soaps.
How are the natural soaps made?
Our natural soaps are made using the traditional cold process. The saponification process takes place at relatively low temperatures of 40 to 70°. The natural soaps then need 4 to 6 weeks to mature.
The big advantage of the cold process is that the nourishing substances such as glycerin remain intact, thus creating a very high-quality natural soap.
